Getting Started
No Escape is a 2004-era RuneScape world where the whole map is PvP at any combat level, and dying costs you everything. This page is what's different on day one.

Tutorial Island
Every life starts on Tutorial Island. The guide will send you straight to the mainland if you ask, and lets you pick your starting town: Lumbridge, Varrock, Falador, Draynor, Edgeville or Rimmington. The other towns on the list are locked.
You leave with the same starter kit every life: bronze sword, wooden shield, shortbow, magic staff, bronze axe, bronze pickaxe, small fishing net, tinderbox, bucket, pot, 5 bread and 25 coins.
New-player protection
Every time you leave Tutorial Island you get 30 minutes of protection. During it you can't attack other players and they can't attack you. The 30 minutes keep counting down while you're logged out, and a server restart ends whatever is left.
::pvpstatus shows how much you have left
::removeprotection ends it early
PvP in one minute
Fights between players are one-on-one. The only players you can't attack are protected ones and members of your own clan chat.
Safe mode is the default
The PvP: Safe / Hunt toggle is in the top-right of your Combat Options tab. In Safe mode you can only attack skulled players or someone who attacked you first. It does not stop other players attacking you.
Attacking gives you a skull
Attack a player who isn't skulled and you're skulled for 15 minutes. Skulled players are fair game for everyone.
Guards hunt skulls
Town guards and White Knights chase skulled players who come near, at any level.
The Purge
Announced 15 minutes ahead, it lasts about 2 hours. Nobody gets skulled, Safe mode stops limiting who you can attack, and the guards stand down.
Death and XP
When you die you lose your items, your bank and every skill level, and restart on Tutorial Island. What you keep is in Death & Deadman.
XP is fastest at the start of each life: 30× for combat skills and 40× for everything else in your first hour of play, sliding to half that over the next 24 hours of play. Only time logged in counts. Details in Skills.
The game screen
No Escape adds some extras around the classic game screen. Press ~ (Shift + `) to hide or show them.
Orbs
Next to the minimap: Hitpoints, Prayer, Run energy and Special attack. Click Prayer for your Quick Prayers, Run to toggle running, and Special to use your weapon's special attack.
Opponent orb
Shows the health of whoever you're fighting: a monster's exact HP, or a player's health as a percentage.
XP Tracker
On the right: every skill's level, overlevels (in blue), XP gained and progress to the next level. The top shows how long you've been alive and your current XP rates.
Quick Prayers
Pick the prayers the Prayer orb switches on: one from each group (protection, strength, attack, defence).
Leaderboards
On the left: the top 100 by total level (overlevels included) and by wealth, refreshed every few minutes.
Drop Tables
Search any monster to see its drops. Examining a monster in game brings its table up automatically.
Voice chat
Turn on proximity voice in the Voice panel to talk to nearby players. Tap Shift to toggle your mic.
Status bar
Your ping, and Player Threat: how many real players are online (Low, Medium, High or Extreme). The PURGE sign appears here too.
Camera
Hold the middle mouse button and drag to rotate the camera, and scroll to zoom.
::commands lists most commands in game. The full list, with clan chat and remote trading, is in Clans, Trading & Commands.
What next
Hundreds of the adventurers out there are AI players who train, trade and hunt players and each other. Read AI Adventurers to know what you're up against.
